Putu Wirantawan's artistic journey is a profound exploration expressed through creative and spiritual practices. He thrives in serene and quiet spaces that foster deep concentration. His drawing technique is marked by simplicity: purely hand-made, without rubbing, without using any other white than the paper's surface, no erasing, no mistakes; he cultivates spontaneity but plans at length. He can spend several years completing large-format pieces and complex installations, contributing to the sense of timelessness in his drawings.

Each scene happens where all times congregate and resonate harmoniously; his style does not respond to a particular period of history. It is contemporary and ancestral simultaneously, inviting the audience to connect with a larger narrative.

Wirantawan uses drawing to uncover the invisible structures that govern the universe. His cosmology features complex elements intricately interconnected in symbolic compositions, finding inspiration in the subtle forces of light, wind, earth, burning incense, and rippling water.

His images embody the Hinduist principle of Pancha Maha Bhuta, the five elements that are the basis of all creation that is contained in the Bhuana Alit, the body with all its physical, emotional, and mental components; and the Bhuana Agung, the all-encompassing universe and its countless microcosmic counterparts. This theme of interconnectedness and the grandeur of the universe is the center of his work.

In his abstract compositions, we witness the contents of the subconscious: forces that both support and oppose one another, thoughts and emotions that range from heavy, dense masses to subtle, ghostly essences. These energies permeate and challenge each other, transforming from a two-dimensional mental space into a three-dimensional emotional experience. Invisible structures in polarity that seek a way out.

His art reveals the journey of consciousness to achieve harmony. Harmony between humans, with Nature, and with oneself.
